Is a Wal-Mart bank coming soon?
Wal-Mart already touts that it is a trusted brand in financial services. After all, it already offers wire transfers, payroll-check cashing and money orders, according to U.S. Banker. It also provides online credit reports and low-cost check printing and recently launched a Discover card. All this begs the question that many in the industry have been asking for some time: When will the powerhouse retailer take the plunge and launch a bank? The company says it has no plans to start taking deposits or making loans -- for now anyway.
