Hedge funds try charity, private equity funds?
Hedge fund managers that have made gazillions are giving back. Some are, anyway. Hedge Funds Care is one of several charities that the industry has given birth to recently. The Robin Hood Foundation, founded by Paul Tudor Jones II, raises millions for charities. And The Children's Investment Fund, out of London, has a nonprofit arm financed by a portion of the fund's fees. Some call these efforts venture philanthropy, reflecting the desire of the donors to bring a more returns-oriented approach to their giving. Hopefully, we'll see more of it. It is great PR to say the least. It would be nice to see similar efforts from the private equity world. At the top, many have ascended high in the social realm. Charity is a natural extension. Which raises the question: Is another Gates or Rockefeller out there?
