Hedge funds, banks discover emissions

The carbon dioxide emissions trading market, whose size has soared to about $30 billion, has thus far largely been a European show dominated by Kyoto Protocol members. But a nascent market has been developing in the U.S. Now, hedge funds are starting to edge into what one participant acknowledged is still a "Wild West" show. And waiting in the wings are several big investment banks, which want to see how market participation evolves in the U.S. and how liquidity develops. They just might step in someday.
