Hedge fund exec arrested for running a pot farm
Add this to the ranks of odd hedge fund scandals. Tara Bryson, 36, the head of investor relations at New Stream Capital--which was founded by her brother David Bryson--has been busted for running a massive pot-growing operation inside her $1.1 million, 6,000 square foot home, Forbes reports.
The Connecticut State Police in Newtown, Conn., arrested her last month and charged her with three felonies: Possession of marijuana, cultivation of marijuana and conspiracy to cultivate marijuana.
She plead not guilty, was released on $25,000 bail, and was soon back at work.
The police called the operation "a complex marijuana cultivation operation capable of producing a marijuana crop year round," notes Forbes.
They seized, according to local press reports, a portable air conditioner, a carbon dioxide generator and motorized track lighting system as well as financial records and a personal computer--and a trove of firearms that apparently belonged to Bryson's boyfriend.
The kicker is that Bryson registered the property with the Connecticut Farm Bureau as Butterfield Farms. She claims the operations is in reality a local supplier of goat products, including cheese, milk and yogurt. She actually got a $49,999 grant from the state to seed the farm.
