Hedge fund activism shifts online
I'm surprised we haven't seen more activist hedge fund managers stepping up their online activity. If managers are willing to use billboards, it only makes sense that they wouldn't think twice about online forums, right? FINalternatives reports Eric Jackson, founder of Ironfire Capital, this month launched the Ironfire Capital U.S. Fund, and is betting on the Internet to press his agenda. He's got some experience in this; last year, he used YouTube to press his campaign to oust directors at Yahoo and Motorola. He says he was inspired by political blogs. His efforts would be helped if his fund were a bit bigger. It's only got $5 million now; he wants to raise $50 million.
