So how is Goldman Sachs' (GS) media work progressing? Well, CEO Lloyd Blankfein is certainly doing its part. "Normally pretty reserved, Mr. Blankfein is on a charm blitz to set the record straight, including interviews, speeches and town halls," reports the Globe and Mail.

His recent talk at a Fortune event certainly generated attention. Through all the fog and "vampire squid" references, the bank's message seems to be trickling through.

This was evident when Lucas van Praag, the PR partner at Goldman, got a nice New York Times columnist to post two documents after reading a column the firm didn't much like. One was a release noting that when Goldman Sachs paid back its TARP funds, taxpayers realized a 23 percent gain. The other was a letter noting that Goldman Sachs was grateful for "taxpayers' patience" and that it would not forget "our obligations to the public interest." This is how the PR wars are fought.
