Goldman Sachs names MDs, still a big deal
Goldman Sachs has named 272 managing directors this year, the company announced. That's a fairly sizable number and reflects the bank's strong performance perhaps. Last year, only 94 made MD, the smallest number since 1999, when the bank went public.
For the second year in a row, the Times notes, the bank declined to make the individuals known. Security concerns no doubt prompted this. This is still a big deal. Congratulations are in order. MDs get a bigger share of the bonus pool and remain on track to "partnership," the concept of which has changed a bit since the public offering. Even if they don't make partner, their stature in the industry is enhanced. More doors open up, even if Goldman Sachs is going through a bruising PR period.
