Goldman Sachs to hang onto Buffett as client?
The relationship between Warren Buffett and Goldman Sachs is getting more interesting. Many have speculated how the departure of Byron Trott, Buffett's favorite investment banker, will affect Goldman Sachs.
True, Trott will still be working as a banker-cum-advisor at BDT Capital Partners, his merchant startup, and he'll likely have Buffett as an investor. But Breakingviews notes that Buffett is among Goldman's most important investors now, owning $5 billion in preferred shares and $5 billion in warrants for common stock. He has every incentive to want Goldman to do well, but this will really be a test of Goldman's depth. You can bet they have a strategy in place to keep Buffett in the fold--a terrific opportunity for a banker.
