Financial News Online notes that it appears that 2007 could be the first year during which more of Goldman Sachs' revenues come from outside the Americas. So far this year, the gilded firm has made 48.7 percent of its revenues in the Americas, compared with 54.8 percent a year earlier. Just six years ago, 64 percent of revenues stemmed from the United States. Goldman has certainly embraced a global vision, and has invested heavily in overseas locales, notably London. Heck, Lloyd Blankfein has even said his successor could be located outside the U.S. This is not all that surprising. Other top banks are likewise investing heavily abroad. At least for the short term, the U.S. growth is bound to slow, while the growth curve looks better in Europe and emerging markets. So diversification makes sense.
