Goldman's infrastructure fund a signal of change?
Goldman Sachs has been a pioneer in infrastructure investing. The close of its $6.5 billion infrastructure fund is yet another indication. It can be seen basically as an extension of private equity investing. Big pensions certainly are interested. However, there are concerns that the market is getting a bit frothy as infrastructure assets get more pricey by the day. Standard & Poor's warned recently that infrastructure investments were poised to suffer from excessive valuations and too-much leverage. This can carry some severe political baggage and has the potential to subject investment banks to some really thorny PR issues.
