Funds of hedge funds not faring that well

Picking hedges isn't as easy as you think. In fact, the funds of hedge funds on average gained 8.7 percent last year, compared with more than 10 percent for the average fund, the Financial Times notes. Of course, funds of funds customers have to pay that added fee, which makes the deal all the worse. But the demand for the product is there. Funds continue to pour into these funds, with the biggest funds taking in the lion's share of new assets. The pensions still see them as viable, but some experts would like to see these investors develop more internal resources and pick their own.
