This should be no surprise, the pay of top fund managers on Wall Street outstripped CEO pay in 2006. Forbes has another list that ranks the top earning Wall Streeters, which they define as hedge fund and equity fund principals and traders, investment bankers and activist investors. Fund managers are faring the best right now. James Simons, owner of much of Renaissance Technologies, topped the list with $1.5 billion. Coming in second is a familiar hand: T. Boone Pickens earned $1.1 billion from his near-half stake in BP Capital, which runs two hedge funds. Collectively, the 20 top fund managers earned $658 million on average in 2006, compared with $145 million for the 20 highest-paid CEOs.
