Financial crisis, the movie version

Tom Hanks as Madoff (Bernard Madoff news) whistleblower Harry Markopolos (Harry Markopolos news)? It could happen.

Markopolos, who just published his book "No One Would Listen" about the Madoff saga and his efforts to get regulators to prosecute the man, has been approached with offers from Sony and Tom Hanks, according to the New York Post. In addition, Brad Pitt has apparently bought the right to Michael Lewis' new book "The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine" all about the eccentric hedge fund (hedge fund news) manager Michael Burry and his attempts to short the housing market. This would be one of several flicks that are trying to mine movie gold out of the crisis.

We already noted the efforts to make a movie from books such as "Too Big to Fail," by Andrew Ross Sorkin. There are other financial movies coming soon as well, including "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" the sequel to the 1987 Academy Award-winning film "Wall Street" (remember Gordon Gekko?) and "Crashing Wall Street," about the 1929 crash.
