Executive shake-up at Citigroup
Is Vikram Pandit the answer at Citigroup? Rumors have been swirling around him since he joined the bank. Some think he's destined for the top. The latest is that CEO Charles Prince has just promoted him; he will now run the investment banking and alternative investment units, two hugely important franchises. This was quite a shake up. Pandit will manage James Forese and Michael Klein, who will serve as co-CEOs of the investment bank. A third top exective, Thomas Maheras, will leave the company. Maheras oversaw the trading unit that took some big losses in the recent credit carnage. The issue here is whether this executive combination will somehow unlock enough energy to satisfy shareholders. It's fair to say that Prince remains on the bubble. Â
