Ex-Merrill exec denies buyback talk
Ex-Merrill Lynch executive Winthrop Smith says he did not approach Bank of America CEO Ken Lewis to discuss a deal to buy back all or part of Merrill Lynch. But there was a dinner that included Smith, Lewis, Dan Sontag of Bank of America, former Merrill CEO Dan Tully and former Merrill private client chief Launny Steffens.
