"You're fired." Those are the two words you don't want to hear if you are a contestant on Donald Trump's reality show, "The Apprentice." The reality is that a lot of people get fired before the show even airs. Thousands of people try out and nearly all are rejected, making this the "American Idol" of the financial world.

What's interesting this time around--the non-celebrity version of the show has been off the air for a few years and is just now making a comeback--is that some former Wall Street types are showing up for auditions. Bloomberg reports that former employees of Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch & Co., Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) and Bear Stearns were among more than 500 men and women lined up outside Trump's building this month to audition for just 14 spots.

The hopefuls include a former commodities trader, financial advisor, and equity analyst. My guess is that one of them will make it. But what kind of person will the producers select. Given the times, they just might go for someone willing to play the arrogant, greedy Wall Street type. It's all about ratings, and such a character might provide a decent villain.
