Death threats and PR

Attorney Anastasia "Stasia" Kelly is no stranger to accounting (accounting news) scandals. She was general counsel at MCI after the scandals there erupted. She joined AIG in 2006, after CEO Hank Greenberg was ousted but before the recent financial products scandal erupted.

In an interview with Fortune, she offers a view from inside the storm. She doesn't offer a whole lot that is earth shattering, but one PR  (pr news) move struck me. It was no secret that the company had been getting some emailed death threats. One issue that came up was how these threats might be used in Congressional hearings. The decision was to use them if the opportunity was there. When things got heated, then-CEO Ed Liddy trotted out the letter and generated enough sympathy that the tone changed.

She ended up leaving over pay. Given some moves by Kenneth Feinberg (Kenneth Feinberg news), she would make much less but might have been ineligible for severance pay. She's back in the job market. Which may be the point of the interview.
