It just seems weird that Bernie Madoff could have pulled off a $50 billion scheme for so many years, all by himself. I just can't see him toiling away, all by himself, after hours, creating all those incredibly detailed fake trading documents. To satisfy sophisticated investors for so many years, it seems like it would require a sophisticated back-office operation. But who? And how?

The family has been ruled out, but Fortune reports Cohmad Securities, a Boston-based investment firm, has been subpoenaed. The firm is 20 percent owned by Madoff and 80 percent owned by Maurice Cohn--its name is a combination of their names. Cohmad's New York office is in the same building as Madoff's. An executive has said that the firm was unaware of the fraud. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered here. Hopefully, Madoff himself, will let the world in on his secrets.
