Corzine's wealth plunges

On Wall Street, when you get right down to it, status and self-esteem accrue from wealth. The more you have, the more people "like" you and the better you feel about yourself. It's a great way of keeping score. Not that it makes you happy.

Using wealth as a measure, it's clear that Jon Corzine is stuck in personal bear market. FOX Business takes an entertaining look at his net worth, which some assumed was not too far below $1 billion at its peak. But his net worth change has unfortunately been rather Japan-like, and it took a few more legs down just recently.

In fact, Corzine "is worth far closer to $1 million than he is to $1 billion, particularly after the MF Global debacle and the legal headaches it will cost him for years to come." Corzine left Goldman Sachs in 1999 with "a net worth estimated to be around $350 million." But over the next decade he spent around $130 million on political campaigns, he went through a costly divorce and he invested about $50 million personally in MF Global, which has gone belly up.

He is also said to have suffered some steep investment losses outside of MF Global. In addition, he'll be paying handsomely in legal fees over the next few years as well. Hopefully, he's the type of guy who doesn't get too wrapped up in his own money and can find alternative sources of happiness.
