Consumer groups, union target Bank of America
The Service Employees International Union and two consumer groups have mounted a campaign against Bank of America and other banks in part by using former Bank of America employees. Aiming for PR splash, they are touting claims by the ex-employees that "supervisors drove them to burden consumers with needless debt and fees, to fatten the bank's earnings and the paychecks of senior executives, and threatened to retaliate if they complained. Some complained their salaries had been too low and that they had to hit quotas to earn needed bonuses," according to Reuters.
Some charges would be shocking if true. One ex-employee said the bank "pushed workers to falsely threaten legal action against customers" and to call delinquent customers' neighbors "to embarrass the customer and actually encourage the neighbor to bring over a message."
