Citi's dubious online marketing efforts
When it comes to marketing, you've got to "think outside the box," "take chances" and all that jazz. You know the drill. Innovative online marketing (marketing news) campaigns offer lots of opportunity.
But Citi (C) might be taking things a bit far with its search engine marketing campaign for its forex brokerage. Clusterstock notes that the bank appears to have invested in some interesting keywords. "When you do a search for Casino Bonanza Online you get two ads for online casino-based sites, but the very first is an ad for CitiFXPro.com, which is, yes, a retail forex trading site run by Citi."
We all joke about Wall Street as one big casino, but this is just so explicit. Does the firm really want online gamblers as retail customers? Then again, I doubt ads touting a way to hedge your personal currency exposure would generate much business. Still, we may see some correction here.
