Citigroup selection imminent?

The board of Citigroup may announce a new CEO as early as today. But that's far from certain. The latest from the New York Times, is that the board, meeting again today, is far from unanimous in its support of Vikram Pandit, the presumptive lead candidate. Detractors wonder if Pandit has enough operating experience or enough consumer banking savvy. Some wonder if he's got the right personality. The media leaks about the reservations will not do Pandit any favors if he eventually gets the job. You have to wonder if it will affect his decision, if offered. Robert Rubin is pushing for him, and that will likely be enough. The question of who will become chairman is especially important. The board will try to persuade Rubin to stay on. My guess is that he'll say yes. But everything is fluid.
