Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit sticking around
Here's what CNBC's Charlie Gasparino says about Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit: "There's been a Death Watch since about March." He noted that Edward "Ned" Kelly, who joined the bank from the Carlyle Group in February 2008, was elevated to chief financial officer, in a move that pushed Gary Crittenden into another role. Kelly seemed to be the man. Recall he was president of Citigroup's alternative investments unit, in charge private equity, hedge funds and real estate, ironically a job Pandit once had.
"People really thought Pandit was gone," Gasparino noted. Kelly seemed to be the anointed one. There was certainly lots of speculation. But now the view seems to be that Pandit has won over his federal handlers and will be sticking around. The stress tests went a bit better than people thought. Analyst Richard Bove tells CNBC, "He should absolutely stay...This company needs stability."
