Citigroup CEO elusive
Does any one want the job? The CEO of Citigroup seems like a no-brainer for anyone who wants to roll up his (a woman candidate has not bubbled forth) and re-make a grand American brand. While Vikram Pandit remains the presumptive favorite, there's many a rumor in the wind. Henry Paulson has denied rumors that he is a candidate, though the Financial Times notes he's effectively working for the bank via his bailout plans. Deutsche Bank's Josef Ackermann had turned away an approach. Dealbreaker suggests that CEO candidates have issues with the extent of the problems and are iffy about having to attest to 4Q earnings, which could be a debacle. Once that is out of the way, the board may ink a deal. Unless, Pandit is announced as the new chief soon. Stay tuned.
