Citi tones it down for opening day
Recall the controversy over Citi's decision not to break its 20-year marketing deal with the New York Mets. Well, opening day is upon us, and Citi is taking lots of precautions to shield itself from any more PR bombs. The New York Times says it's not likely that CEO Vikram Pandit will be in the luxury box. He certainly will not throw out the first pitch. Same goes for other top executives.
Instead, the bank has invited community groups to sit in the box, which will be hosted by a few execs. The bank is certainly taking all of this seriously. Citigroup execs have vetted their guest list carefully. It has also urged caution about handing out free tickets. This, of course, is in marked contrast to previous years, when banks in general went all out.
