The most powerful person in the gun industry is none other than Stephen Feinberg (Stephen Feinberg news), founder of Cerberus (Cerberus news), the alternative investment fund. Cerberus has invested heavily in the gun industry, buying up the likes of DP MS, Bushmaster, Remington and Marlin.

According to Bloomberg, it now controls 13 brands via its Freedom Group holding company. With revenue of $848.7 million last year, it's the largest gun firm in the United States. This is a case of the buyers knowing their product. Feinberg and some of his top executives are said to be real "gun guys." The issue is whether it will work out as an investment. Early on, it looked like a home run, as all the talk of gun regulation led to a spurt in sales. But gun control looks like it will remain on the back burner, and the sales have tapered a bit.
