The case for Lehman Brothers
There's been a whole lot of chatter about whether Lehman Brothers is actively pursuing a white knight to bail it out. Barclays has been the focus of the most recent spate of rumors. The AP reports that Morgan Stanley analyst Patrick Pinschmidt has issued a research note that found Lehman Brothers vulnerable, but points out that "near-term concerns appear overdone." He added: "We see a forced fire sale at a distressed discount to book value as highly improbable, and thus see little reason for the firm to explore a sale at this juncture." He also concludes that the firm has adequate capital to cover additional writedowns. Pinschmidt sees the stock at $31 a share. Book value of late has been about $33 a share.

Lehman is going to be a $ stock, with a business that today has value. Once the debt continues to take over as the economy deterioriorates, and the stock market losses exacerbating demolishing leveraged assets that Lehman holds a lot in the market, along with fresh foreclosures and writedowns, now due to the stock market erosion of wealth. I know of some people whom have used the market as there last lifeline to "catch up" and the fresh foreclosures will be huge, along with the oil price going crazy, and the reducing dollar. Its not even gotten nearly as ugly as it will get for Lehman. Issuing stock for employees because they know where there market is, and Morgan Stanley tried to scratch another investment bankers back in order to fend off a crisis within there own firm by artificially inflating and inducing a rally on investment banks. I hate to use the term but there will be a bloodbath for Lehman. $18 was cheap for GM off from $30 but now we are at half that price. Throw away your Kelly Blue Book, this is the worst stock market of all time,Id head for the border.
