After Brian Moynihan (Brian Moynihan news) got the top job at Bank of America (NYSE: BAC), we thought he'd have a long, hard uphill climb. It was assumed he got the job because a qualified outsider couldn't be found and there were lots of thorny problems left behind by former CEO Ken Lewis (Ken Lewis news).

So how's he doing? Time gives him good marks. Since taking the reins, "he has used a mix of consumer-friendly initiatives, Washington face time and attention to detail to win over critics. Consumer advocates have applauded the bank's moves on debit cards and foreclosures. Washington officials say he is easier to work with than his predecessor Kenneth Lewis. And analysts have been impressed with Moynihan's knowledge of Bank of America's many businesses."

He has certainly taken a more pro-active approach to winning people over in Washington, something Lewis never did. Morale at the bank seems to be improving. It would've been hard to do much more, other than move to Charlotte.
