Fortune offers an interesting, behind-the-scenes look at the asset management company that is BlackRock. There was a time when CEO Larry Fink was seen as a top candidate to run several banks, but in the end, he's an asset management guy. And what a firm he has built.
When BlackRock completes its $13.5 billion acquisition of Barclays Global Investors, it will be twice as big as its nearest rivals, State Street and Fidelity, the article notes. But you have to wonder if anything can get lost when a single firm manages more than $3 trillion. Fink may be the one guy who can pull it off. One key will be getting the firm to think small despite its heft.
