Big Data: Smart move for the future

If you want to sound hip in a techno-sort of way--if only to prove you’re on top of big-think trends--you may want to sprinkle the term Hadoop into conversations.
Hadoop is the open source technology at the heart of the Big Data movement, which has emerged as a front-burner issue at all banks, if only in concept. You may want to drop that Hadoop was originally the name of one of the creator’s toy elephant.
The conventional wisdom is that data--both structured and unstructured--at banks and financial services companies are exploding and that we’ve hit an inflection point. Traditional tools and databases can no longer easily keep up with the volume. In search of an alternative, banks are tinkering with Hadoop-based solutions in many areas.
Business analytics is often mentioned as an area ripe for Big Data tools, as are CRM and compliance initiatives. The whole idea is to basically go Moneyball to an extreme.
