A better Bank of America settlement?

Jim Cramer suggests a better solution to the Bank of America settlement over its failure to alert shareholders that it had signed off on Merrill Lynch's massive bonus payments. Why not have Bank of America CEO Ken Lewis pay $33 million instead of the company? The suggestion gets at a fundamental issue that has ebbed and flowed as the credit crunch rolled on: Accountability.

So far we've seen very few top executives held accountable in a strict legal sense. But many have lost their jobs, and I guess that is the most shareholders can hope for. As for Lewis, most people assume that he is on his way out; it's a matter of when an orderly transition can be effected. Cramer is still bullish on the stock, however.
