The Bernie Madoff scandal spans the globe

The victims of Bernie Madoff's alleged Ponzi scheme, which may rank as the largest ever, make up a star-studded list: Mortimer Zuckerman, Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, Steven Spielberg and Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Others include former Philadelphia Eagles owner Norman Braman, New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon and J. Ezra Merkin, chairman of GMAC Financial Services. Banks and hedge funds have also been hit. This will go down as one of the most brazen frauds in Wall Street history; $50 billion is mind-boggling. They say reputation is important on Wall Street. This shows you just how far you can go with a good name. People were willing to disregard the many whispers that had emerged over the years to invest with one the legendary Madoff.
