Bernard Madoff touts index funds
Bernard Madoff (Bernard Madoff news) has been busy in jail. From granting an interview to an attorney, to getting in a shoving match that left him on top, to getting the stuffing beat out of him by some guy who thought he was owed money, to hanging out with other celebrity criminals. But apparently he still has time to dole out stock advice.
You might think only a fool would take advice from him, but he's no longer peddling his proprietary, and quite fraudulent, investments. He's now riffing on none other than John Bogle, who may or may not be complimented. A former inmate tells MarketWatch that Madoff is big on index funds, which, frankly, is sort of hard to argue with.
The former inmate also noted that Madoff warned him against day trading. Not that this will help him with his maker or anything. Meanwhile, former operations chief Daniel Bonventre and two computer programmers entered not guilty pleas last week in federal court. A trial would end up being quite a zoo. Stay tuned.
