Bernard Madoff associated Frank DiPascali free on bail
Frank DiPascali, the long-time CFO to Bernard Madoff (Bernard Madoff news), has been cooperating with the prosecution almost since the scandal erupted. It's been quite a ride for him. DiPascali (Frank DisPascali news), who pleaded guilty to 10 charges of fraud, has apparently long impressed his handlers, who have argued for leniency on his behalf. But that didn't stop Judge Richard Sullivan from throwing him in jail last August, against the wishers of his federal handlers. Quite a shock to say the least.
Things have quieted down since then. And DiPascali, 53, was quietly let out of jail recently. Bloomberg Business Week notes that Judge Sullivan required a $10 million bond secured by $2 million in cash or property, and 24-hour house arrest except under escort; and an electronic monitoring device. DiPascali must also forfeit all assets, except about $300,000.
For other employees, however, the saga continues. Civil suits were filed against two former employees, Annette Bongiorno and Joann Crupi, who worked as back-office staff for more than 25 years. The government is asking for $5 million from the two.
