Bankers still aim for inconspicuous consumption (relatively)
Why are Bentleys in vogue on Wall Street? It could be that they are slightly less expensive than other traditionally in-vogue cars, say a Rolls Royce. But they are also assumed to attract less attention.
With bonuses back in style, purveyors of high-end real estate and goods are sensing an uptick in sales. But the mood is apparently still cautious. No one wants to attract any attention. Some have been told by the firms to tone things down.
Recall the Goldman Sachs (GS) restrictions on Holiday parties. However, there are big bargains on foreclosed vacation homes, for example. The moneyed set may not be partying like they did in the mid-2000s. But there's a lot less fear, and in a way that's good for NYC.
