Bah humbug! Scrooge-ing Holiday parties

Goldman Sachs (GS) gets all the publicity of course, but it isn't the only Wall Street firm to nix its holiday party. Plenty of others firms--and not just in the financial service industry--have decided to scrooge these festivities, afraid of the PR fallout. Morgan Stanley (MS) for one has let it be known that it will not have a party this year. This is a good idea, as these parties had gotten a bit extreme.

CNNMoney notes a Barclays party that cost about $1.2 million; it hosted more 3,000 guests. This year, Bank of America (BAC) workers are being encouraged to organize a donation to a charity. Citi (C) employees can celebrate outside of work, although they would not be reimbursed. None seem to have gone as far as Goldman Sachs, which is trying to ban parties even outside of the offices for 12 or more employees.
