We're seeing some interesting developments in the on-going Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme investigation. Madoff himself has injected himself into the mess, by giving an interview to a lawyer in a deal that would protect his wife from becoming a defendant. But it's unclear what he can do for former loyalists.

Case in point: Federal prosecutors are preparing to file criminal charges against Frank DiPascali, one of his top lieutenants, reports the Financial Times. DiPascali is expected to plead guilty to various charges. DiPascali worked with Madoff for about 30 years and had frequent contact with investors, the paper reports. He joins David Friehling, Madoff's former accountant, as the top loyalists who were criminally charged. What people are really waiting for is news on whether executives at top feeder funds will be charged or cleared.
