Scale matters in the hedge fund industry. Surprising no one, Alpha concludes the top 10 hedge fund firms manage almost one-fifth of total hedge fund assets. That's up 29 percent from 2006. The top 100 firms manage 75 percent of all hedge fund assets under management. The big winner, once again, was JPMorgan Chase, whose Highbridge Capital Management paced strong growth. Coming in second: Bridgewater Associates and Farallon Capital Management. Renaissance Technologies came in fourth. Och-Ziff Capital Management rounded out the top five. FINalternatives notes that D.E. Shaw Group and Goldman Sachs fell from fourth and second place, respectively, to sixth and seventh. Ouch!
