Sidley Partner Thomas A. Cole Named to the 2010 Directorship 100

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to announce that Thomas A. Cole, chair of the firm’s Executive Committee and a partner in its Chicago office, has been named to the 2010 Directorship 100 list of the most influential people in corporate governance and the boardroom. The annual list by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) is selected by an Editorial Advisory Council, as well as a comprehensive survey of NACD members. Mr. Cole will be honored, along with the other 2010 inductees, at the annual Directorship 100 recognition dinner on November 8 in New York.

“We applaud Tom’s selection to the D100 list,” said Charles W. Douglas, chair of Sidley’s Management Committee. “His ability to handle a successful M&A and corporate governance practice along with his management responsibilities is to be commended. He is certainly deserving of this prestigious achievement.”

Mr. Cole maintains a substantial practice in public company mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. He has been involved in dozens of transactions valued at more than $1 billion. Corporate governance assignments have included advising public company boards, audit and compensation committees and special litigation, transactions and investigative committees. Mr. Cole is a frequent speaker at M&A and corporate governance seminars, including the Kellogg School of Management Annual Corporate Governance Conference. For five years ending in 1998, he taught the seminar on corporate governance at The University of Chicago Law School, where he is a Trustee of the University. He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare.

“It is an honor to be named to the D100 list and to be recognized by NACD,” said Mr. Cole. “This award reflects the strength and depth of Sidley’s Corporate Governance and Compliance practice team.”

In 2001, Mr. Cole was recognized by Chambers Global, the London-based publication, as one of the 26 U.S. lawyers included in its list of the “Global 100 Lawyers”—“lawyers who stand out from their colleagues and are recognized internationally.” He was designated an M&A “Dealmaker of the Year” for 2007 by The American Lawyer. He was also selected to BTI Consulting Group’s “Client Service All-Star” team for 2008.
