Julian Robertson Appointed Chairman of Forstmann Little
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Forstmann Little & Co. announced today that Julian Robertson has been named Chairman of the firm.
Mr. Robertson will provide counsel to Forstmann Little regarding its three remaining portfolio companies: IMG Worldwide, the global leader in sports, fashion and media; 24 Hour Fitness, the largest privately owned U.S. fitness club chain; and ENK International, the leading trade show organization for the fashion industry. Mr. Robertson has been elected to the IMG Board of Directors.

Mr. Robertson is an independent investor and active philanthropist. Considered one of the fathers of the hedge fund industry, Mr. Robertson founded the investment firm Tiger Management Corp. and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer for two decades. From startup capital of $8 million, Tiger at its peak managed over $22 billion. Prior to Tiger Management, Mr. Robertson served as the head of Kidder, Peabody & Co.’s asset management division.
Mr. Robertson has established and overseen a number of charitable organizations, including The Robertson Foundation, which he created with his late wife Josie and their family in 1996 for the purpose of driving significant social change in the principal areas of education, the environment, medical research and religion & spirituality; the Tiger Foundation, which he established in 1990 with other employees of Tiger Management; and The Blanche and Julian Robertson Family Foundation, created in memory of his parents as a community-focused foundation. Similarly, Mr. Robertson is the founder and benefactor of the Robertson Scholars Program which awards leadership scholarships for 144 students at Duke University and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
