Bank Security Guru Bruce Schneier to Speak at CELAES Summit in September 2010 in Miami
Reconceptualizing Security
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Annual Bank Security Summit CELAES 2010 will be held from September 30 to October 1st, 2010 in Miami, facilitated and organized by FIBA (Florida International Bankers Association) and FELABAN (Banking Association of Latin American Banks). Both trade entities representing banks in the United States and Latin America, are innovating to deliver superior expertise and insights in the banking security sector such as Mobile Banking, Physical Security, Operational and IT Security and Fraud as a Security Risk.
The two-day event will present a keynote address by Bruce Schneier, an internationally renowned security technologist, author and currently Chief Security Technology Officer of BT Global Services. He is best known as a refreshingly candid and lucid security critic and commentator. When people want to know how security really works, they turn to Schneier. Regularly quoted in the media, he has testified on security before the United States Congress on several occasions and has written articles for many major publications.
“Security is both a feeling and a reality. You can feel secure without actually being secure, and you can be secure even though you don't feel secure,” said Schneier. “We tend to discount the feeling in favour of the reality, but they’re both important. The divergence between the two explains why we have so much security theatre, and why so many smart security solutions go unimplemented,” he added. “Several different fields -- behavioral economics, the psychology of decision making, evolutionary biology -- shed light on how we perceive security, risk and cost. It’s only when the feeling and reality of security converge that we can make smart security trade-offs,” he concluded. Described by The Economist as a “security guru”, Schneier will be the centre of stage on Friday October 1st at 12 noon.
This year's Conference program has been built by some of the world’s most recognized entities featuring leading specialists from banking operations, security, regulators, fraud detection units, and information technology who come to share knowledge and discuss the issues that are at the top of Banking Security’s agenda. CELAES 2010 attracts year after year hundreds of participants ranging from financial institutions across the hemisphere, as well as the companies that offer cutting-edge solutions.
