Big PE firms, hedge funds eye real estate

We weren't surprised when news trickled out about so many funds and firms setting up to invest in distressed securities. In times such as these, there are a lot of bets to be made. The next big target by private equity firms and hedge funds may be commercial real estate, which has been stung by the credit crunch. According to Fortune, Goldman Sachs, Fortress, D.E. Shaw, Apollo Real Estate Advisors, and the Rockefeller Group, are looking at land in Florida, Colorado, California, and other "subprime-ravaged states." There's a lot of money in REITs that seems to have been waiting for an entry opportunity. This may be it. It could prove to be a very savvy move. But you have to act fast, as things could reflate quickly.
