Tourism: Cashing in on Wall Street rogues
Annaline Dinkelmann, a former employee at Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS), has been running an interesting business since 2006: she offers Wall Street Walks, narrated walking tours of the financial district that offers a rich dose of history, from revolutionary times right up to the current crisis.
The licensed New York City sightseeing guide tells TheDeal: "There are so many scandals, and in the financial crisis so many people lost so much money, so there is a lot of fear. (People) want to know what [the banks] are going to do next. They also want to know about all of those people involved." Nothing sells like a good scandal. She often gets into her opinion of the likes of Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit (Vikram Pandit news) and Morgan Stanley Chairman John Mack. She also notes that she once had lunch with Mack at a corporate event.
The tour, which costs $45 a person, ends with a drink at a Wall Street pub. Is it enough to make a living? Well, Dinkelmann trades currencies in her off hours.
