Burkle to look at Dow Jones

The employee union at Dow Jones has recruited billionaire Ron Burkle to aid its search for an alternative buyer for the company. He was not necessarily the first choice. Burkle seems to covet a media company; has been unsuccessful in his attempts to buy The Los Angeles Times and Philadelphia's two dailies. The union, which acknowledges it is undertaking something unusual, also reached out to Warren Buffet, who wasn't interested. Other big names, undisclosed, were also contacted. The union also said it is conferring with Ownership Associates, which specializes in ESOPs. To some, this smacks of desperation. But the fear of Rupert Murdoch at the Wall Street Journal is real.
