Top Wall Street banks work to woo returning moms
In an effort to pave the way for people who left for lifestyle issues to return to Wall Street, Lehman Brothers started its Encore program. Goldman Sachs launched its new Directions program. JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank are expected to launch similar programs at some point. This is certainly a cultural shift from the "lunch is for wimps" days. The new found emphasis on flexibility carries some big advantages. The burnouts who leave often have built up some valuable expertise and institutional knowledge. Why let all that walk out the door because of an 80-hour work week. They also know the pool of the women who left for whatever reason are itching to get to work but in a less crazy way. These firms will undoubtedly pick up some good people.
