Morgan Stanley vs. The New York Times
This is shaping up as one of the more interesting shareholder fights out there. Recall that London-based Morgan Stanley Investment Management, which owns a 7.6 percent stake, has recently started a campaign to push out the Times' Arthur "Pinch" Sulzberger, Jr. and reform the company's famous two-tiered stock structure. The structure has consolidated voting power in the family. That works as long as the upside is obvious. But in this era of enhanced corporate governance, people are surprised this hasn't happened earlier. The latest news is that a Morgan Stanley analyst has advised clients to sell the stock.
