Big run on Antigua bank; Stanford whereabouts unknown
A day after Texas billionaire Allen Stanford, of the disgraced Stanford Group, was charged with running an $8 billion fraud, the lines have lengthened at Stanford-linked banks in Antigua and Caracas. At the Bank of Antigua, the line stretches for more than 600 people, Reuters reports. Only two cops are on hand.
Stanford was the biggest employer in the twin-island state of Antigua and Barbuda, so nerves are really frayed. The big issue is where in the world is Stanford himself. CNBC has apparently reported that he tried to hire a private jet to take him from Houston to Antigua, but his credit card was not accepted. He really ought to turn himself in. Thanks to Samuel Israel, he may be judged a flight risk anyway.
