New Sherriff on Wall Street: Tim Geithner
Timothy Geithner, just 47, has emerged as the man on Wall Street. To a shocking degree really, he's calling the shots. Banks dare not cross him. The New York Post notes he's got his hands in just about every situation--from Bear Stearns to the GSEs to the Lehman non-decision to the current bailout talk. The holy trinity of finance now seems to be him, Ben Bernanke and Henry Paulson. Geithner has had quite a career in public service already, serving as the Clinton point man on the Asian crisis. That prepped him well for the current one. Hopefully as a regulator, he'll be around for a long, long time. Then again, he could make millions by selling out. Sort of the reverse of the Paulson path.
