Going green has many implications for banks

Like other companies, environmental activists have targeted banks in hopes of greening their policies. In general, the activists have been successful. In the last year, JP Morgan, Citigroup, HSBC, Bank of America and Scotiabank have stepped up their environmental pledges. In some cases, it certainly seemed like the banks were bowing to pressure: recall the protesters wearing hazmat suits outside of JP Morgan. But some wonder if banks are adopting policies that they may not be ready to really act on. Truly, it is a delicate balancing act.
