Instinet to embrace derivative trading

Volume in derivatives trading has exploded, and that has many execution players wondering how they can nab their piece of the pie. Instinet has decided to launch an options and futures trading mechanism on its equity platform in the quarter or two. It plans to either partner with another brokerage or build a system itself. You can't blame them for moving in this direction. You do have to wonder what would happen if volume were to drop significantly. I am sure all this was contemplated in the business plan.
